For Faculty

Helpful Information about visiting the WRC

Faculty, please feel free to use this blurb on your syllabus:
The Writing Resources Center (WRC) is a free tutoring service available to all students and can help you at any stage of your writing process—from invention to final polishing—for any academic, professional, or personal writing. For academic writing, always bring your professor’s assignment materials (instructions, rubric, etc.) to help you and the tutor understand the assignment. You can make appointments at, or stop by any WRC location for a walk-in at the top of the hour. For locations, operating hours, and information about online tutoring, visit
The Student Referral Program is still in place for those students whom you feel could benefit from consistent, weekly appointments.

Effective Writing Instruction Resources:

Below are key resources that will act as an introduction to practices grounded in research on the teaching and learning of writing.

Print Libraries:

The Writing Resources Center houses two libraries:

  • The Janet L. Smith Collection consists of professional journals and books on writing instruction and research. Materials are available to Teacher-Consultants of the UNC Charlotte Writing Project and to UNC Charlotte faculty, staff, and students.
  • The WRC Library has books specific to student writing concerns, such as resumes, writing in the disciplines, writing about literature, technical writing, and grammar. Students may use these books in the WRC during regular hours of operation.
