The WRC offers hourly tutoring positions to both undergraduate and graduate students from a variety of disciplines. We also offer teaching experience and leadership opportunities to tutors as they develop their own writing abilities and interpersonal skills.
Every tutor—both novice and experienced—must complete a semester-long training course, English 4400/5400: Theory & Practice of Tutoring Writing. In this course, students will read and write about writing center scholarship, discuss tutoring practices, and conduct writing center research. Students will also tutor for three hours a week in the WRC during the length of this course.
Continued employment in the WRC requires ongoing professional development via staff meetings. Experienced tutors may also apply for a small number of summer tutoring positions.
If you are interested in becoming a part of the WRC team, please follow these instructions.
There are a limited number of Graduate Assistantships available in the First Year Writing Program. If you are interested in a Graduate Assistantship, please apply through the English department.
