Jessi Morton
First-Year Writing Adjunct
Cameron 113

MA in English (concentration literature)

Biography: Jessi graduated magna cum laude in 2011 with a BA in English, emphasis literature, and a history minor from Concord University in Athens WV. Her primary academic interests are texts that deal with masculinity and violence, as well as transgressive fiction, and she especially enjoys studying contemporary American literature (1920s to the present). She is also a creative writer, horror film enthusiast, health nut, and cat lady. She is currently working as an English graduate assistant aiding students in the writing center.

Research Interests: In the Writing Resource Center, Jessi is especially interested in working with students who are doing interesting and original writing in fields such as English, history, anthropology, and virtually all liberal arts. She has also been doing research on the effectiveness of writing center visits and student attitudes and responses to writing center visits. Hopefully, this research will develop into a survey study.

Scholarly Contributions:  Currently, Jessi is working on a couple of articles with the intent to publish. Two of them deal primarily with film and masculinity, while another is focused on Appalachian masculinity and coal mining. She hopes to find a home for these pieces at a conference or in literary journals very soon.
